Ray Edward Ruby, 87, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his home.
Ray was born on July 14, 1924, in Bunker Hill, the son of Warren E. and Tillie (Luerman) Ruby. He grew up in the Bunker Hill area and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1942. He joined the United States Marines and fought during World War II in the Pacific. After the war he fell in love and was united in marriage to Dorothy Lee Fairchild on January 1, 1947 in Great Bend, Kansas. From this union they were blessed with a son, Bruce. Ray was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6240 and was a former Farm Bureau Board Member. He enjoyed traveling, working on the farm working on water wells and spending time with his family.
Surviving family include his wife Dorothy of the home; son Bruce Ruby and wife Cathy of Bunker Hill; 3 grandchildren John, William and Eugene Wilbourn and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Steinle.
A graveside service to honor Ray will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. The V.F.W. Post #6240 of Russell will perform the military honor guard. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Monday, February 20, 2012, at the mortuary. Memorials may be given towards the Russell County Veterans Memorial and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
