Ruth E. Regester, 91 of Russell, Kansas died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Ruth was born March 28, 1922 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the daughter of Earl and Anna (Dove) Call.  Her family moved around when she was young, but spent most of her childhood growing up in Florence, Kansas.  She lived in Florence until 1950 when she moved to Russell.

Ruth worked at the Sellen’s Pool Hall for many years.  She worked for Ell-Kan in Ellsworth, Kansas and Travenol in Hays, Kansas on the assembly line.  She cleaned for the City of Russell and at the Russell Airport and she also placed inserts for the Russell newspaper.  The one thing she was most proud of was being a Senior Companion for over ten years during the latter part of her life.

Ruth was united in marriage to Gene Regester on September 16, 1960.  They made their home in Russell.  Gene preceded her in death on August 26,  2001.

Ruth was a devoted member of the Assembly of God Church in Russell.  She also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #99 Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting and raising tropical fish.

Surviving family include her three children, Marilyn Heckman of Topeka, Kansas, Earline Brazel of Kansas City, Kansas and Kenneth LeRoy Mohn of Russell, Kansas; five stepchildren, Judy Weisner of Shawnee, Kansas, Ron Regester of Kansas, Doug Regester of Manhattan, Kansas, Nancy Stringer of Salina, Kansas, and Dawn Brewer of Salina, Kansas; 23 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, son Chuck Flowers, sister Opal Aberg, grandson Heath Flowers and granddaughter Patricia Blodgett.

Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.  A Memorial has been established with the Assembly of God Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
