P.O.W. Memorial Added to the
Russell County Veteran's Memorial!!
Recently there have been many changes to the Russell County Veteran's Memorial. First, Russell City workers felt that both memorials should be together instead of being located in different areas. So they asked the city councel for approval to move the P.O.W. Memorial. As you may know, the P.O.W. Memorial was located on the east side of the V.F.W. Post #6240. Now it has been moved to its new and permanent home next to the Russell County Veteran's Memorial (RCVM). Both are now located off old highway 40, south of the golf course and west of the rest stop. Also, the city workers, lead by Les Margheim, did a wonderful job using local post rock posts to decorate both of the memorials and bring more attention to drivers passing by. All the sponsors of the memorial including the City of Russell, Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, V.F.W. Post #6240 and American Legion Post #99, would like to thank everyone from the city and community for all the help provided.
Also, you may have noticed something new added to the RCVM. Our new 14 foot lights located on four of the corners around the "Field of Honor Bricks". During the day, the black antique looking posts give the memorial a majestic crown giving it depth and added beauty. During the night, the new lamps light up the memorial like a stadium, allowing people to enjoy it at night. Please stop by and check out some of the new changes going on at the Russell County Veteran's Memorial.
