Rita Rose Scheck, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, December 06, 2013, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Rita was born on October 25, 1928, in Victoria, Kansas, the daughter of Adam and Caterine (Brungardt) Bellendir.  She grew up in Victoria, attended St. Fidelis Grade School and graduated from Victoria High School.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Edwin Scheck on August 08, 1949, in Victoria.  From this union they were blessed with 3 children, two sons Gerald and Stephen and a daughter Karen.  Rita worked as a babysitter and also as a salesperson at Sears, but her full time job was being a wife, mother and homemaker for her growing family.  She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  She was also a member of the Catholic Council of Women, Monday afternoon quilting, TOPS and American Legion Auxiliary Post #99.  She enjoyed hand quilting, embroidering, crocheting and crafts.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving family include Edwin of the home, Gerald Scheck of Newport Coast, California, Stephen Scheck of Independence, Oregon and Karen Scheck of Topeka, Kansas; sisters Bernadette Baier of Lincoln, Nebraska and Miriam Wasinger of Victoria, Kansas and 3 grandchildren Thomas, Trevor and Amelia Scheck.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers Vitus I, Raphael, Vitus II, Vernon and Marvin Bellendir.

A celebration of the funeral mass for Rita will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell with Father Michael Elan officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell. A Vigil service will be held at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the church.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church or Wheatland Nursing Center Activities Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
