Helen Margaret (Schmeidler) Schulte, 90 of Russell, Kansas died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.
Helen was born January 22, 1924 on the family farm near Severin, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. She grew up in the Severin area. She graduated from the Girls Catholic High School in Hays.
Helen met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Ralph Leo Schulte on June 7, 1948 in Severin. This union was blessed with three children; Karen, Leann and Frank. They made their home in Russell. Ralph preceded her in death on August 20, 2009.
Helen was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She worked for Felton Truck Lines before she was married as well as Baxter Travenol Labs, later in life. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Russell Council of Catholic Women, Daughters of Isabella and the American Legion Post #99 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, crafts, gardening and canning, playing cards and was a Girl Scout/Cub Scout Leader when the children were younger. She loved traveling with Ralph and was a true family sports fan.
Surviving family includes her daughters, Karen Trible (Ron) of Russell, Kansas and Leann Cless (Steve) of Wichita, Kansas; son Frank Schulte (Linda) of Russell, Kansas; brothers, Alfred Schmeidler (Theresa) of Great Bend, Kansas and Kenneth Schmeidler (Betty) of Hays, Kansas; sister-in-laws, Mary Schmeidler of Hoisington, Kansas and LuVerna Schmeidler of Hays, Kansas; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers, Norbert, Wendelin, Marcellus, Martin, Linus and James; three sisters, Evelyn Rupp, Mary Karlin and Edna Karlin; and granddaughter Rebecca Trible.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday, February 3, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Vigil and Rosary will be held at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Monday at 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established with St. Mary Catholic Church or U.S.D. #407 Sports Fund.
