Elsie Root, 96, passed away April 12, 2014 at Salina Presbyterian Manor.
She was born March 8, 1918, in Brighton, Colorado, to Reinhardt and Molly Herbel. Her husband, Harry, preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings: Bertha Claussen, Clara Casper, Dan Herbel, Leah Cooper, Henry Herbel, Leo Herbel and Sara Herbel. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis (Gene) Kraft of Bunker Hill and a son, Larry (Sharon) Root of Salina, two grandsons, three great-granddaughters, four great-great grandchildren as well as two sisters, Vera Pejsha (Wilson) and Molly Easter of Shawnee. Elsie had been a homemaker, school cook, restaurant cook and manager of the Triple R Café in Marquette, Kansas, for 4 years. She had also worked Boogart Grocery and Brunk Jewelers a number of years before her retirement. Celebration of Elsie’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 16th at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio, Salina, Kansas with Pastor Jon Fillipi officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Wilson City Cemetery in Wilson, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. Viewing will also be held from 9:30 AM to Service time at the Church on Wednesday. A Memorial has been established with the Salina Presbyterian Manor of Salina, the First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Salina. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
