Jeanette D. (Hamilton) Gfeller, 86, of Russell, Kansas died Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas.
Jeanette was born October 17, 1927 in Boulder, Colorado, the daughter of Lloyd Eugene and Dallas E. (Dodson) Hamilton. She grew up in Boulder, Colorado, Idaho and Long Beach, California. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach. After school she returned with her family to Winona, Kansas. Jeanette was united in marriage to Harley Clayton Gfeller on October 17, 1946 in Winona. This union was blessed with seven children; Lloyd, Roger, Craig, Warren, Gayle, Anita and Ron. They made their home in Winona until 1958 when they moved to Russell.
Jeanette worked in medical records for Russell Regional Hospital, Dr. Merkel and Dr. Starkey’s office, Dr. White and Dr. Pettijohn office and Dr. Sam’s office before retiring in 1989. Then Jeanette and Harley moved to Tonganoxie, Kansas where they lived until 2004 when they returned to Russell. Harley preceded her in death on November 28, 2005.
Jeanette was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Church Circle. She also belonged to Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Red Hat Ladies, Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary and was a Trustee on the Hospital Board. She enjoyed traveling to Mercedes, Texas for over 15 years with Harley. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her attention.
Surviving family include three sons, Craig Gfeller (Penny) of Olathe, Kansas, Warren Gfeller (Angela) and Ron Gfeller (Aimee) all of Russell, Kansas; two daughters, Gayle Gfeller of Booneville, Missouri and Anita Wiley (Edward) of Russell, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Linda Foley (Michael) Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Nancy Miller of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Kerry Ann Date of Loveland, Colorado; nineteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Lloyd Gfeller and Roger Gfeller, brothers Nick Wilson and Kent Wilson and granddaughter Amanda Wiley.
Celebration of Jeanette’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Then Saturday from 9:00 AM to Service Time. A Memorial has been established with the Russell Regional Hospital. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell who is in charge of these arrangements.
