Wilma June (Hanlon) Michel, 83 of Russell died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Wilma was born July 30, 1930 in McPherson, Kansas the daughter of James and Lillian (Wickham) Hanlon. Her family moved to Russell in 1936 where she grew up and graduated from Russell High School in 1949.
Wilma was united in marriage to Donald Dean Michel on February 14, 1961 in Russell. This union was blessed with five children; Kent, Jeff, Tim, Todd and Jill. Don preceded her in death on January 23, 2008.
Wilma was a devoted homemaker and wife. She also was a caregiver to family members.
Wilma was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching movies and dinner outings.
Surviving family include four sons; Ken Michel (Charlotte) of Russell, Kansas, Jeff Michel (Bethany) of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Tim Michel (Karyl) of Overland Park, Kansas and Todd Michel (Angie) of Lee Summit, Missouri; daughter, Jill Zink (Rob) of Gardner, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Wayne Hanlon and James Hanlon.
Celebration of Wilma’s Life will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A Memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
