Cynthia C. (Meyer) Futrelle, age 54, joined her loving father in heaven on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Born in a blizzard on St. Patrick's Day (yes, she was a life-long, clover-leaf wearing, Irish-loving gal!) in Russell, KS to Richard and Wanda (Finnesy) Meyer, Cynthia attended elementary school in Natoma and Lawrence, KS, middle school in Maryville, MO and graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1978. A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Early Childhood Development, Cynthia married David Futrelle in 1981 and together they raised their precious daughter, Alycia, the light of Cyn's life. She was devoted to her daughter as a stay-at-home mom, as well as to countless other children as a home daycare provider for 26 years. Wearing a shamrock on her heart, Cynthia was so proud of her Irish roots and, following in her father's footsteps (who retired from KU), a diehard Jayhawk fan! She was so loyal to her family, to her beloved kitties and to nature in general... just like her rancher father.
Preceded in death by her dad, Richard, and her brother, Bob. Cynthia is survived by her incredible daughter Alycia, of Lawrence, KS; her inspiring mother Wanda, of Prairie Village, KS; her sister Rhonda, brother-in-law Ron and two very special nephews Reid and Reilly Pollard of Lenexa, KS; A special aunt and uncle Mary Ann and Ed Breit of Hays, KS.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Natoma Cemetery where she'll be laid to rest with the loving, protective, family men in her life. Please consider contributions to the angels at Hospice (Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87th Street, Suite #100, Overland Park, KS 66212) who were so fond, so caring and so supportive of Cynthia and her family during the last hours of her life. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
