Elmina R. (Wood) Machin, 99 of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Main Street Manor in Russell.
Elmina was born March 17, 1915 in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin S. and Kathryn (Milberger) Wood. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School.
Elmina was united in marriage to Lysle Machin on December 13, 1947 in Bunker Hill, Kansas. They made their home in Russell. Lysle preceded her in death on May 14, 1995.
Elmina worked for the United Telephone Company here in Russell for over 30 years. She started out working as an operator but when she retired, she was the office manager. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Lysle and her loved to go to antique shows and to collect antiques. She was a true animal lover. She enjoyed reading books, especially mystery novels and doing cross word puzzles.
Surviving family include three nieces, Marjorie Chick of Connecticut, Charlotte Stanocek of Louisiana and Holly Wood of Illinios; three nephews, Gerald Machin of Russell, Kansas, Keith Machin and Lee Machin both of Estes Park, Colorado; cousins, Barbara Westerman of Branson West, Missouri, Valerie Cook of Russell, Kansas and Rebecca Finnegan of Russell, Kansas; and caregivers, David and Carolyn Gnad of Russell, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Richard Wood and infant brother Benjamin L. Wood.
Celebration of Elmina’s Life was held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard Officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. There will be no visitation the night before. A Memorial has been established with Russell Main Street Manor.
