Richmond, Virginia - Myron Edward Johnston, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday August 18, 2014.  He was born on November 14, 1930 in Colfax,Washington.  His family moved to Grangeville, Idaho in 1934, where he graduated as valedictorian in 1948.  Myron attended the University of Idaho where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1952 with a degree in Economics.  Myron continued his studies, with graduate work at the University of Oslo, Norway, the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Brown University.  He spent two years in Germany in the Army Counter-Intelligence Corps followed by eight years working for the Federal Government. In 1965, he moved to Richmond, employed as an economist with Phillip Morris until his retirement in 1993. Myron was an avid reader and loved to travel.  Myron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaVerda Berg Johnston in 2004.  Myron is survived by his sisters-in-law Lela Harmon and Helen Montroy both of Kansas. He was a cat lover and is also survived by his two cats Spooky and Micah.  Myron leaves behind a host of friends who will greatly miss him.

A private burial will take place at a later date.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
