Norma Jean (Boxberger) Schwien, 81, of rural Russell, Kansas passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at her residence.
Norma was born November 24, 1932 at the family home in northeast Ellis County, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Pauline (Mai) Boxberger. She was confirmed on March 30, 1932 in German at the American Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. She grew up in the Ellis County area and attended the Pleasant Dale School District #99. She later obtained her G.E.D.
Norma was united in marriage to Leonard Larry Schwien on January 7, 1951 in Russell. This union was blessed with five children; Stan, Stewart, Marcie, Belinda and Brenda. They made their home in the Russell area. Larry preceded her in death on August 15, 2007.
Norma was a devoted homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, embroidering, making her children’s clothes and attending Polka dances.
Norma’s surviving family include her son, Stan Schwien (Fonna) of Russell, Kansas; three daughters, Marcie Juergensen of Great Bend, Kansas, Belinda Petty (David) of L.J., Georgia and Brenda Keffer (Lee) of Russell, Kansas; three brothers, Dennis Boxberger of Otis, Kansas, Kenny Boxberger of Salina, Kansas and Arlyn Boxberger of Great Bend, Kansas; sister, Frances Hoffman of Gorham, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Stewart in 1973, one brother, two sisters and grandson Brian Steinert.
Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor John Thompson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM to Service time on Thursday at the church. Graveside service and burial of ashes will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Russell City Cemetery. A Memorial has been established with Trinity United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
