Harley Lloyd Wade, 80, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Lloyd was born July 22, 1934 on the family farm in Greenwood County, Kansas.  He was number twelve of thirteen children born to Oliver and Sarah (Moore) Wade.  He grew up in Greenwood County and graduated from Piedmont High School.

Lloyd served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  After his tour of duty he returned to the Fredonia area.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Catherine Ball on February 1, 1959 in Severy, Kansas.  This union was blessed with three children; Kathy, Sharon and Lloyd.  They made their home in Severy for a couple of years before moving to the Fredonia area.  Then in 1961 they moved to Russell.

Lloyd was a cable splicer for United Telephone Co.    He worked in Fredonia before transferring to Russell.  He retired from Sprint Telephone Co. in July of 1996.  He was a kind and simple man that enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.

Surviving family include his wife of 55 years, Catherine of the home; daughters, Kathy Fraker (Steve) of Fallon, Nevada and Sharon Klaus (Greg) of Sublette, Kansas; four sisters, Verna Agard of Andover, Kansas, Lela Allyn of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Myrtle Becker and Carol Olson both of Eureka, Kansas; six grandchildren, Joey, Rayanne, Katie, Wade, George and Aaron; and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Lloyd A. Wade, four brothers and four sisters.

Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Post Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the mortuary on wednesday, September 10, 2014.  Memorials have been established with Otterbein United Methodist Church or Black Gold Pheasants Forever – Children’s Programs.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
