Lawrence Glen Pfortmiller, 72, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away on October 13, 2014 in Natoma Kansas. Funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 25th at 12:00 pm. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Natoma, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements. Larry was born in Hays, KS on September 13, 1942. He graduated Natoma High in 1960 & Fort Hays State in 1964. He obtained his Masters and Doctorate Degree in Solid State Physics from the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, where he lived most of his adult life. Larry had various technical professions at The Leavenworth Army Base, Foresight Resources in Lawrence, which he founded, Packer Plastics in Lawrence and Pearsons/NCS in Lawrence. After retiring, Larry returned to his boyhood home in Natoma, Kansas, where he pursued his love of photography, computers and animals. His artwork is featured throughout Kansas including his principal showcase of over 100 photographic prints at Rooks County Health Care Center in Plainville, KS. Larry was married to Mary Kathryn Meitl in Oakley, KS from 1965 to 1991. Larry is survived by his children Teresa Castle of Concord, CA, Rachelle Moley of Olathe, KS, and Jon Pfortmiller of Redondo Beach, CA; sister and brother-in-law Gayla and Ross Wichman of Ellis; brother and sister-in-law Louis and Carla Pfortmiller of Lawrence ; five grandchildren Violet, Trevor, Jackson, Rubyanne and Nick; nephews and nieces Gregory Scott Sharits of Star, ID, Kimberly Shartis Graham of Catawba, NC, Kristine Kay Hamilton of Crystal River, FL, Courtney, Mackenzie and Tanner Pfortmiller of Lawrence, KS, and Rowdy Wichman of Ellis, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence Jess Pfortmiller, mother Hazel Ina Romine Pfortmiller and sister Linda Kay Sharits.
