Frank A. Klema, 62, of Shawnee, Kansas, and former Russell resident died on October 28, 2014, at the Shawnee Gardens Healthcare and Rehab Center in Shawnee, Kansas.
Frank was born on February 20, 1952, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Samuel and Aurilla Louise (Tisdale) Klema. After the sudden death of his parents, he and his 4 brothers were raised by his aunt and uncle Dell and Anna Klema. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1970. After high school, he attended Kansas State University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business. Later he moved to the Kansas City area where he lived for over 30 years before moving to Shawnee, Kansas for the last several years. He was a longtime member of Advent Lutheran Church in Olathe, Kansas and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also enjoyed watching Kansas State football and basketball as well as watching the Kansas City Chiefs football and Royals Baseball. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.
Surviving family include his stepmother Anna Klema of Russell, 3 brothers Marty Klema and wife Becky of Ellisville, Missouri, Michael Klema & wife Kathy of Lenexa, Kansas and Brian Klema and wife Mitmaly of Overland Park, Kansas; step brother D.J. Klema of Russell; step sisters Georganna McCrary and husband Dick, Karleen Wolf and husband Richard and Kaye Schlessman and husband Bill all of Russell, and ex-wife Janet Dalton of Overland Park, Kansas.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Louise Klema, step-father Dell Klema and brother Steven Klema.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to the National Aphasia Association and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
