Dr. Theador (Ted) Edward Jones, 77, died at Salina Regional Health Center on November 12, 2014 in Salina, Kansas.
Theador was born October 22, 1937 to Eldon and Maxine (McIntire) Jones in Maud, Oklahoma. He grew up in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. He obtained a Bachelor’s in Education from Fort Hays State University, Masters in Education in Administration from Emporia State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He spent his early professional years teaching and coaching at Herington then becoming Superintendent of several schools including Valley Falls 1968-70, Phillipsburg 1970-81, Derby 1981-84, Atwood 1985-91, and Santa Fe Trail 1991-94. After his retirement in 1994, he then moved to Salina.
Theador was united in marriage to Yvonne Fortney on June 22, 1957 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children; Jennifer, Kevin, and Melinda. He was involved in Rotary, Lions Club, and Kansas School Administrator Association. His hobbies included writing, gardening, carpentry, and putting together model airplanes. He also authored four historical novels.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of the home, daughters Jennifer Reling (Dan) of Beloit, Kansas, Melinda Walmsley (John ) of Minneapolis, Kansas and sister Elliene Lucas of San Antonio, Texas, ten grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin in 2004.
A celebration of Theador’s life will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9am until service time on Monday. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler is in charge of these arrangements.
