Eugene R. Knudsen, 82, of Russell, Kansas, passed away on November 20, 2014 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Eugene was born January 23, 1932 in Denmark, Kansas to David and Helen (Hendricksen) Knudsen.  He graduated from Vesper High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Japan.

Eugene was united in marriage to Connie Smith on May 24, 1953.  This union was blessed with one son; William.  They lived in Russell since 1958.  Connie preceded him in death on August 5, 2014.

Eugene was a farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell.  He enjoyed watching various sports events and was a dog lover at heart.

Surviving family includes his daughter-in-law, Rita Knudsen of Russell and grandson David Knudsen (Josette) of Russell, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Connie, son William, grandson Mitchell, a brother, Don, and a sister, Joyce Gray.

Celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10am at the First Congregational Church in Russell. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9am to 8pm at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  A memorial has been established at the First Congregational Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
