Eugene L. Steinert, 89, passed away on December 31, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ellsworth, Kansas.
Eugene was born on August 21, 1925, in Northern Barton County, Kansas, the son of Albert and Martha (Steitz) Steinert. He grew up on the family farm near Galatia and attended local schools. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Doris Radke on March 12, 1950, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. From this union Doris and Eugene were blessed with 3 children; sons Alan and Wayne and daughter Lois. He worked for Evan’s Radiator as well as City Dairy, both of Russell. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and making jigs.
Surviving family includes his sons Alan Steinert and wife Linda of Pearland, Texas and Wayne Steinert and wife Robin of Dubois, Wyoming; daughter Lois Skinner and husband Robert of Texarkana, Texas; brothers Kenneth (Donna) Steinert of Great Bend, Kansas, Robert Lee Steinert of Denver, Colorado; sisters Alberta Brack of Hoisington, Kansas and Annamarie (Bill) Powell of Salina, Kansas; former daughter-in-law, Kay Dolechek of Claflin, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, brother Waldean, grandson Mitchel Eugene Steinert, and brother in law, Robert Brack.
A Celebration of Eugene and Doris’ life will be held at 10AM on Monday January 05, 2015, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 04, 2015 from 1pm to 8pm at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present from 6pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the Kans for Kids organization and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
