Eunice Marie Garrett, 79, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, January 05, 2015, at the Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Eunice was born on June 25, 1935, in Dorrance, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Schmidt) Claussen. She grew up in Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School in 1953. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Melvin R. Garrett on May 31, 1953 in Dorrance. From this union Eunice and Melvin were blessed with two children, a daughter Bonnie and a son Ronnie. She worked at Sunflower Bank in accounting for several years but her main job was being a homemaker and taking care of her growing family. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell and was a member of the church Altar Guild. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Dorrance American Legion. She enjoyed sewing and playing bingo but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Neal of Russell; son Ronnie Garrett of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, infant son Steven and 2 brothers Jerry and Leo Claussen and sister Verna Shaffer.
A celebration of Eunice's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 09, 2015, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. at the Dorrance City Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, January 08, 2015, at the mortuary with family to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to the St. John Lutheran Chruch Alter Guild and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
