Evelyn L. (Emmert) Stambaugh, 99, of Beloit, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Hill Top Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
Evelyn was born January 12, 1916 in Randall, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur N. and Maude H. (Tedrow) Emmert. She grew up in the Mankato, Kansas area and graduated from Randall High School in 1933. She then moved to Topeka, Kansas and worked at a drug store countrer. It is here that she met Joe. Evelyn was united in marriage to L.W. “Joe” Stambaugh on August 12, 1934 in Topeka. They made their home in Mankato for awhile before moving to Russell. This union was blessed with two daughters; Linda and Beverly. After the girls were out of school, Evelyn worked for the Ben Franklin Store, Alafern Nursing Home, Simpson Elementary School cafeteria, Russell Hospital cafeteria and the Travenol in Hays. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bridge club, and the church circle at Trinity United Methodist Church. She was known for her giggle and “Auntie’s Cookies”.
Surviving family include her daughter Linda Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe in 1986, daughter Beverly in 1996, brother Bill Emmert and sister Norma Shamburg.

Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 6 PM Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the mortuary with the family present to greet guests from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. Sunday afternoon.
