Joyce Marie (Hurlbut) Lorenc – Scott, 83, of Russell, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 02, 2015 at her home with her family by her side.
Joyce was born August 15, 1931 in rural Russell County, Kansas, the daughter of Merle and Gertrude (Zweifel) Hurlbut. She grew up in Osborne County and attended school in Luray. She then graduated from the Salina Beauty Academy.
Joyce was united in marriage to Fred Lorenc on December 14, 1948 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children; Judy, Kirk, Janelle and Kyle. They made their home in the Luray, Kansas area. Fred preceded her in death on October 27, 1994. Joyce was united in marriage to Richard Scott on February 17, 2006 in Waldo, Kansas. They made their home in Russell.
Joyce was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was a hairdresser and later drove the school bus for USD 407 for many years. She was a member of the Luray City Council during the 1980’s. She also belonged to the Luray United Methodist Church, the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Luray American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Russell Shrine. She enjoyed working in her garden, playing cards, fishing, working with wood and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving family include her husband Richard of the home; two daughters, Judy Finkenbinder (Mike) of Waldo, Kansas and Janelle Parmelee of Derby, Kansas; two sons, Kirk Lorenc (Cheryl) of Peck, Kansas and Kyle Lorenc (Susan) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Larry Hurlbut of Salina, Kansas; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred and sisters Wanetta Anglin and Ina Fay Smith.
Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Graveside service will be held at 3:30 P.M. at the Luray City Cemetery in Luray, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 8 PM on Monday, April 2, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. Memorials have been established with Waldo Fire Department or Waldo Senior Center. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
