Leonard Carroll Stoppel, 84 of Dorrance, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Leonard was born November 26, 1930 in a farmhouse south of Dorrance, the son of Carl G. and Lena D. (Anschutz) Stoppel.  He grew up in Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School.  He then attended a year at the Stevenson Automotive School in Wichita.

Leonard was united in marriage to Marilyn Wycoff in 1953 in Topeka, Kansas.  This union was blessed with three children; Kenneth, Darcelle and Gennelle.  They made their home in Dorrance until 1960 when they moved to Wichita.  They returned to the Dorrance area in 2001.

Leonard worked for H&H Parts in Wichita.  He started out working in the stretch press and worked his way up to Purchasing Agent when he retired in 1993.  He also was a farmer his whole life and enjoyed working with his son.  After retirement, he was known for his love of mowing the city of Dorrance and helping family and friends with harvesting.  He was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and church council.  He was a city councilman for the city of Dorrance.  He was a 50 year member and 32nd Degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Wichita and later the Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge #177.  He also belonged to the Scottish Rites.  He enjoyed working on odd jobs with his son and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving family include his wife of 62 years, Marilyn of the home; son, Kenneth Stoppel (Tena) of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Darcelle Tracy (Steve) of Dorrance, Kansas and Gennelle Brown (Chris) of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vada Turner.

Celebration of Leonard’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Dorrance Lutheran Church.  Private family burial will follow the services in the Dorrance City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Memorials have been established with Angel Home Care of Russell and Town & Country Animal Hospital.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
