Porter Edward Emil Hackerott, 88, of Luray, Kansas, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Porter was born on December 05, 1926, on the family farm in rural North Natoma, Kansas, the son of Emil and Florence (Beisner) Hackerott.  He grew up in the Natoma area and attended country schools.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Eva Jean Schurr on December 16, 1972, at the Luray United Methodist Church in Luray, Kansas.  From this union Porter and Eva were blessed with two children, a daughter April and a son Aaron.  He worked for many years as a truck driver for Klema Dairy, driving his truck to Wichita to deliver milk.  He also worked in the maintenance department at Kansas State University and helped local farmers tend to their farms and equipment.  He enjoyed taking long walks with his kids and grandkids, cooking, yard work, gardening, watching TV and watching Kansas State University and Kansas University basketball and football.  Most of all he loved to talk and share stories with his family and friends.

Surviving family include his wife Eva Jean Hackerott of the home; son Aaron Hackerott and wife Jeanne of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughter April Johnson and husband Perry of Ozawkie, Kansas; brother Edward Hackerott and wife Darlene of Kansas City; sister Ruth Hackerott of Phillipsburg, Kansas and sister in-law Laverne Hackerott of Natoma, Kansas; 6 grandchildren Noah, Arial and Hannah Hackerott and Ryan, Brett and Alec Johnson and great grandchild Kaiden Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gordon Hackerott; 3 sisters Ethel Stefina, Esther Schultz and Laura Gallager.

A celebration of Porter's life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the Luray United Methodist Church in Luray, Kansas, with Pastor Les Rye officiating.  Burial will follow at the Luray City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Family will greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the Luray United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
