Janet Maye (Eddy) Metz, 79, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at home with her family by her side.
Janet was born December 9, 1935 in Russell County, Kansas the daughter of Duke and Helengene Cook Neil. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1953. She then attended and graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree and went on to become a social worker.
Janet was united in marriage to E. Doug Metz on December 27, 1959 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with four daughters, Kelly, Stacey, Sara and Mary. They made their home in Russell and Topeka, Kansas, St. Louis, Missouri, Middle Town, Ohio, Lakewood, Colorado for 35 years and Wichita, Kansas.
Janet was a devoted wife and homemaker. She worked for Russell County for many years as a Social worker. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Rainbow Girls, and was active in the Republican Party on the local level. She enjoyed volunteering her time, knitting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving family include her husband of 55 years, Doug of the home; daughters, Kelly Younger (Dave) of Ulysses, Kansas, Stacey Metz (Dennis) of Seneca, Kansas , Sara Kadowaki (Jay) of San Diego, California , and Mary Mattingly (David) of Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Allan Neil of Derby, Kansas and Bill Neil of Russell, Kansas ; sister, Linda Renberger of Derby, Kansas ; nine grandchildren, Deacon, Kirby, Macy Younger, Lindsay,Alison, Jackson and Mitchell Kadowaki, Wyatt and Stella Mattingly. And many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gordon Neil.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Russell City Cemetery. Cremation has preceded the service. A Memorial has been established with Rivercross Hospice of Wichita. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
