Viola Lucille (Karst) Dumler, 96, of Russell, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

Viola was born April 9, 1919 on the family farm near Galatia, Kansas, the daughter of Ben and Lena (Dietz) Karst.  She grew up and attended school in the Galatia area.

Viola was united in marriage to Paul E. Dumler on January 28, 1940 in Russell. This union was blessed with three children; Denny, Barbara and Sylvia.  They made their home on a farm southeast of Russell in the Pioneer area.  Viola was a devoted farmer’s wife and homemaker.  She helped Paul on the farm until they retired in 1976 and moved into Russell. Paul preceded her in death on June 12, 1997.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and church circle.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and would submit cooking items for the Russell County 4-H fair.  She was an avid reader and taught herself a higher education, she always dreamed of being a Librarian.  She loved taking care of her grandchildren and always being there for them.  Her personality was one where she never knew a stranger.

Surviving family include her son, Denny Dumler (Judy) of Scottsdale, Arizona; two daughters, Barbara Bremer (Bob) of Castle Rock, Colorado and Sylvia Noller (Stan) of Russell, Kansas; two brothers, Art Karst of Great Bend, Kansas and Leon Karst (Wanda) of Rush Center, Kansas; six grandchildren, Robyn Davis, David Dumler, Heather Archuleta, Pam Dumler-LaFrenz, Christopher Noller and Brian Noller; and nine great grandchildren. 

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, brother Carl Karst, sister Florence Veech and step sister Esther Nuss.

Celebration Viola’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas with PMA Nancy Mitchell officiating.  A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Memorials have been established with St. John Lutheran Church, Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Vintage Place of Russell.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
