Arthur Hachmeister, 96, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas.

Arthur was born on November 9, 1919 on the family farm north of Natoma; the son of Ferdinand H. and Bertha (Hackerott) Hachmeister.  He grew up in the Natoma area and graduated from Natoma High School in 1937.  Arthur served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, Asiatic Pacific Theater, Adak and Kiska, Aleutian Islands.  Following the war he returned to Natoma for resuming farming and ranching. 

Arthur was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Stueve, May 11, 1946, Bensenville, Illinois.  They made their home on the family farm near Natoma, Kansas.  This union was blessed with two children, Laah and John.  Evelyn preceded Arthur in death, July 17, 2010.

Arthur was a rancher, farmer, and devoted husband and father.  He retired at the age of 90 in 2011.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell.  He was a life member and past Commander of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240; and was a life member and past Commander of the Natoma American Legion Post #109.  He was active in the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essay contests.  He was a member and past president of the Natoma Lions Club; received an International Lions recognition.

Surviving family include one daughter, Laah Tucker (Terry) of Natoma, Kansas; one son, John Hachmeister (Diane) of Oskaloosa, Kansas; brother-in-law, Fred Stueve of Leonora, Illinois; five grandchildren, Aaron Tucker, Arielle McLarty (Thomas), Lucas Hachmeister (Stephanie), August Hachmeister, and Annamaya Hachmeister, and great grandson, Patrick Henry McLarty; including many nephews and nieces and including many great nephews and great nieces.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; wife Evelyn; brother, Ferdinand Hachmeister; and sisters, Inez Schloh, Anna Reiner, and Laura Hachmeister. Celebration of Life for Arthur will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 12, 2016, St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Family viewing prior to service at 9:30 AM.  Graveside service and burial will follow at the Natoma Lutheran Cemetery where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.  Viewing will be from 5 PM to 7 PM, Friday, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Memorials have been established with the St. John Lutheran Church, Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, Natoma American Legion Post #109 Auxiliary, or Natoma Lions Club.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
