Vicky Sue Mader, 72, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Vicky was born on October 21, 1943, in Oakland, California, the daughter of Waldo and Lillian "Billie" (Baughman) Landis. When she was a year old she moved to Russell, Kansas, and attended Russell Schools and attended 1 year at Ft. Hays State University. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Marvin E. Mader on May 12, 1959, in Russell. From this union Vicky and Marvin were blessed with four children Robin, Michael, Curtis and Cassandra. During her life she wore many hats running multiple businesses most notably helping her husband as bookkeeper and office manager of Marvin's Garden. She attended St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. She was a former member of Rotary, Elks and the Eagles. She enjoyed needlework, stain glass, painting, doll making, floral arrangements and crafts. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving family include her husband Marvin of the home; sons Michael Mader and wife Brenda of Topeka, Kansas and Raymond Curtis Mader and wife Kristy of Russell; daughters Robin Walters and husband Jon of Houston, Texas, Cassie Karst and husband Kirk of Russell; brother Darl Landis and wife Linda of Amarillo, Texas; sisters Sheri Olsen of Pretty Prairie, Kansas and Patricia Plumhoff and husband Bruce of Coweta, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.
A funeral mass to celebrate Vicky's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell with Father Michael Elan officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the mortuary. A Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7 P.M. on Monday, October 17, 2016, at the church. Memorials may be given to the High Plains Humane Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
