Curt L. Richards, 59, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.
Curt was born February 13, 1958 in Russell, the son of Bill A. and Marjorie A. (Richardson) Richards. He grew up and attended school in Russell.
Curt met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Vicki S. Potter on March 25, 1978 in Russell. This union was blessed with two sons; Nate and Joshua. Shortly after marriage they lived in Salina, Kansas for a short time before returning to Russell.
Curt worked over 15 years for the Russell Regional Hospital in maintenance and the last 10 years as Director of Maintenance. He also did heavy equipment work, roofing jobs and built homes. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell, Fur Harvesters and was a Ham Radio Operator. Besides his boys, his passion was with the outdoors, including gardening, hunting, fur harvesting and tanning hides.
Curt’s surviving family include his wife of 39 years, Vicki of the home; sons, Nate Richards (Desi) of Beloit, Kansas and Joshua Richards (Karna Carlson) of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Bill Richards of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Kim Berry (Scott Soukup) of Ellsworth, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Reese Richards, Rowan Richards and Wilder Richards. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Curt’s Life will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Eurit officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Memorial has been established with Russell Regional Hospital Maintenance Department.
