Joel Dean Stull, 60, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.
Joel was born December 17, 1956 in Hays, Kansas, the son of Max and Alberta (Jennings) Stull. He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of ’75. During school he was part of the 1974 State Runner-up Football team and the 1975 State Basketball Champion.
Joel met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Debbie Nickell on August 19, 1980 in Natoma. This union was blessed with four children; Dustin, Allison, Ashley and Amber. They made their home in Natoma.
Joel was owner and operator of Stull Pumping, LLC. He was also involved as a partner with many oil companies in the area. Most all of his life, Joel was a passionate Rancher. He was a member of the Natoma United Methodist Church and Church Council. He was a member of the Eastern Star, Paradise Masonic Lodge and Isis Shrine. He served his community as a member of the Natoma City Council, Natoma Fire Department and Natoma Mayor. He helped with his children by being involved as a 4-H Leader and Coach in basketball and Pee-Wee baseball. He enjoyed hunting deer and coyotes, watching sports especially KU Basketball and KC Royals, spending time with his grandchildren, and taking care of his cattle.
Surviving family include his wife of 37 years, Debbie of the home; son, Dustin Stull (Jennifer) of Natoma, Kansas; three daughters, Allison Williams (David) of Prairie Village, Kansas, Ashley Wolfe (Matt) of Grinnell, Iowa and Amber Pagura (Tanner Portenier) of Natoma, Kansas; like a son, Dustin George of Natoma, Kansas; three brothers, Wane Stull (Cheryl) of Solomon, Kansas, Lary Stull (Peggy) of Hays, Kansas and Keith Stull of McPherson, Kansas; sister, Jean Tatkenhorst (Keith) of Natoma, Kansas; and 10 grandchildren, Jackson, Vaughn, Ava, Iris, Aden, Ryland, Anthony, Maysa, Bryn and Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Joel’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Natoma Gymnasium with Pastor Janet Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery near Zurich, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Memorials have been established for the betterment of the Natoma Community and the formation of a Joel Stull Memorial Agricultural Scholarship. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
