Robert J. Sellens, 78, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.
Robert was born on August 04, 1939, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Berniece (Witt) Sellens. He grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was married for many years to Joyce Irene Ehrlich in Russell, Kansas. During their marriage, they were blessed with 3 children, Mark, Joseph and Teresa. Robert farmed along with his father, and worked as an electrician, hospital supply clerk, police officer, sheriffs officer and truck driver over the years. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a past leader of the Russell civil air patrol wing, and an early Kansas certified EMT. He enjoyed tinkering in electric repair, carpentry, and spending time with his children.
Surviving family include his son Joe Sellens and wife Monica of West Chicago, Illinois, Daughter Teresa Davis of Perkins, Oklahoma, Grandchildren Matthew Sellens, Amy Gans, Mollie Davis, Dana Sellens, Bryant Davis and Terry Davis, along with 3 great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark Sellens and brother Richard Sellens.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Father James Grennan officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be on the day of the service from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Friday. Memorials may be given to the Russell County Food Pantry and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
