Kellie (Gartung) Donovan, 40, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kellie was born August 26, 1977 in Kinsley, Kansas, the daughter of Rodney and Teresa (Feldman) Gartung.  She grew up in Kinsley and graduated from Kinsley High School in the Class of ’95.  She then attended Kansas State University.

Kellie met, fell in love and married her high school sweetheart, Kyle D. Donovan on September 8, 2001 in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley.  This union was blessed with two children; Austin and Harlee.  They made their home in Kinsley until 2003 when they moved to Russell, Kansas.

Kellie was Co-Owner and Operator of the Playdium Bowl in Russell.  She also worked for over 14 years with UMB Bank of Russell recently as a Loan Clerk.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Russell.  She also belonged to the Russell Booster Club, was very active in Relay For Life and Kellie and her family was named Family of the Year 2017 in Russell.  She enjoyed reading, bowling, volleyball, softball and watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the K-State Wildcats.  But what she loved the most was watching her children in sporting and school activities.

Kellie is survived by her husband, Kyle of the home; son, Austin Donovan of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Harlee Donovan of Russell, Kansas; parents, Rodney and Teresa Gartung of Kinsley, Kansas; sister, Kathleen Haselhorst (Shane) of Kinsley, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and faithful family dog, Licorice.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.  A Graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday at the Hillside Cemetery in Kinsley.  Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Donovan Children’s Education Fund and can be sent to the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
