Carl Alvan Larson, 73, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Russell Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.
Carl was born on April 09, 1944, in Goodland, Kansas, the son of Willard J. and Vivian E. (Munger) Larson. Carl grew up in the Sharon Springs, Kansas, area and graduated from Sharon Springs High School in the class of 1962. After high school he received an associate's degree from Garden City Junior College. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Diane Marie Billinger on February 03, 1967, in Lawrence, Kansas, where they lived for 10 years. From this union Carl and Diane were blessed with 3 children Catherine, Carl and Clarence. Carl worked in the oil fields for several years as tank truck driver and pipe tester. Carl left the oil fields to worked as a machinists for the NAPA Auto Parts Store in Russell. When the store closed he went to work for Future Sound/Radio Shack. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God, the NRA and the Ham Radio Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, CB and Ham radios and collecting various items he felt would be useful in the future. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving family include his wife Diane of the home, daughter Catherine Fappy (Yaya) of Grandview, Missouri; sons Carl Larson (Judy) and Clarence Larson all of Russell, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step father John Larson, brother John H. Larson and great granddaughter Destiny Larson.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to either the Russell Public Library or the Kansas University Cancer Center and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, are in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
