Ronald Harold Krug, 81, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Ron was born October 25, 1936 in Ness City, Kansas, the son of Raymond Harold and Lydia (Boxberger) Krug.  At a young age, Ron’s family moved to the Russell area where he grew up and attended school.  He graduated from Russell High School in 1954.  He then served his country in the National Guard from 1958 to 1962.

Ron met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Stephens on June 1, 1958.  This union was blessed with three children; Stephanie, Steven and Randy.  They made their home in the Russell area.

Ron was a farmer, rancher and oil field pumper most all of his life.  He worked for Grant Township on road maintenance and worked for the City of Russell in the Street Department for a few years.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He was a member in the Russell Masonic Lodge and the Isis Shrine in Salina.  He also belonged to the Russell Elks Lodge.  He was a proud owner of two Century Farms.  He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing games on the computer and doing his “workouts” at the Russell Regional Hospital Therapy Department.

Surviving family include his wife of 59 years, Shirley of the home; daughter, Stephanie Hutchinson (Randy) of Falun, Kansas; two sons, Steven Krug (Connie) of Russell, Kansas and Randy Krug (Cathy) of Salina, Kansas; brother, Jerry Krug (Charlotte) of Katy, Texas; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry Krug and Jim Krug.

Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. , Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.  Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  A Memorial has been established with Russell Regional Hospital Therapy Department.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
