Heather Lynne Berens, 39, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at her residence.
Heather was born July 9, 1978 in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Kathy Berens. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of ’97. Heather has been a fixture of the Russell community her whole life. She enjoyed attending all the community events. She was very active as a participant of the Special Olympics for the Russell Rough Riders many years. She was a big hearted lady that loved everyone. She loved going to the farm, attending concerts, watching WWE Wrestling, listening to country music, going bowling, playing basketball, getting slushies and making tacos. She was a huge movie buff, especially Johnny Depp movies. She would help Dustin Poche` in his studio. Heather especially loved watching her nephew Harley play sports.
Heather’s surviving family include her mother and step father, Kathy Peacock and Lonnie Wise of Russell, Kansas; sister, Stephanie Hazlett of Abilene, Kansas; step brother, Jeremiah Lumpkin (Katrina) of Derby, Kansas; nephews, Harley & Phillip Hazlett of Abilene, Kansas; niece, Roseanna Hazlett of Abilene, Kansas; close buddies, Matt Driscoll of Russell, Kansas and Dustin Poche` of Russell, Kansas; uncles, Larry Berens of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho and Kevin Moren of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Aunts, Cheryl Lathrop (Tom) of Hot Springs, South Dakota and Julie Flelharty of Boise, Idaho; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her step brother, Joseph Bennett III; grandparents, Robert & Roseanna Berens and Dulia Kramer; and cousin, Steven Herman.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established with Russell Rough Riders or Turner Syndrome Foundation.
