Carl Henry Rein, 94, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Carl was born on September 13, 1923, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Henry and Katie (Foos) Rein.  He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1941 and attended Sterling College for a year.  After college he joined the United States Coast Guard.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Esther Dumler on June 06, 1948, in Russell, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with a son Roy.  He enjoyed working as a farmer on the family farm.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.

Surviving family include his son Roy A. Rein and wife Patricia of Russell, Kansas; sister Dorothy Wire of Smith Center, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther Rein on October 20, 2003; sister Esther Olsen and brother Edwin Rein.

A private family service and inurnment will take place at a later date.  Cremation has been selected by the family.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
