Joseph Alan “Joey” Carter, 34 of Luray, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 due to an automotive accident north of Bunker Hill, Kansas.
Joey was born January 17, 1984 in Hays, Kansas, one of three children born to James and Janie (Laubhan) Carter. He grew up in Gorham, Kansas until the age of 10 when his family moved east of Russell. He graduated from Russell High School.
Joey was known for his love of life and infectious laugh. He was known to voice his opinion and was always up for a good argument. In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching his stepsons baseball and flag football teams, playing golf, mens softball league, and fantasy football. He loved listening to all types of music and spent many nights attending concerts. For many years, Joey and his dad raced on area dirt tracks and shot off many local firework displays. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Golf Association.
Joey worked in the oil field with his dad and recently enjoyed working at Perfect Print.
Joey’s surviving family include his significant other, Monica Mullender of the home; step sons, Tucker and Wyatt of the home; parents, Jim & Janie Carter of Russell, Kansas; brother, Jordan Carter of Russell, Kansas; sister, Julie Counts (Chad) of Russell, Kansas; grandmothers, Twila Carter and Betty Laubhan both of Russell, Kansas; nieces, Averie and Adelyn Counts both of Russell, Kansas; nephew, Archer Counts of Russell, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ernest Carter and Fred Laubhan.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 22, 2018 at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Steier and Fr. Daniel Scheetz officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. A Memorial has been established as the Joey Carter Memorial Fund.
