Helen Anna Anschutz, 100, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Helen was born on November 16, 1918, in Page City, Kansas, the daughter of Carsten A. and Dora A. (Furthmyer) Tiedeman.  In 1921, Helen's family moved to the family farm that was located in Russell County in the Hornview Community about 12 miles northeast of the city of Russell.  She lived and attended school in the Hornview Community and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1936.  Helen met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Paul Clayton Anschutz on May 12, 1946, in Russell, Kansas.  From this union Helen and Paul were blessed with two children Steven and Annette.  When the children were old enough, Helen went back to work for the Russell Regional Hospital working as a bookkeeper for a total of 29 years.  She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell and at one time was a member of the church council.  She was also a member of the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and Red Cross Blood Drive.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting and loved traveling around the world with her husband and visited a total of 28 countries in almost every continent of the world.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grand children and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her son Steven Anschutz and wife Jurita of Russell, Kansas; daughter Annette Moore and husband Tom of Lyons, Kansas; 3 grandchildren Rachel McCarl, Lindsay Ahlvers and Erika Jones and 5 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul on December 22, 2001; and 2 sisters Gladys Adsit and Stella Nesbitt.

A celebration of Helen's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 30, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening.  Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
