David Jacob Reisig, 71, of Russell, died October 10, 2019. He was born December 24, 1947 in Russell, Kansas, to Jacob D. Reisig and Olga Marie Steponick. David graduated from Russell High School in 1965. While achieving his bachelor's degree in Agronomy from Kansas State University, he met and fell in love with Pamela Kaye Weckman, of Oskaloosa, Kansas. They were married January 26, 1969 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage with three vow renewals over the years.
In the early 1970s, David served as an officer in the United States Air Force Pararescue, providing long distance ocean recovery rescue missions. In 1974, David brought his family back to Russell to farm.
In the early 1980s, he and Pam started Reisig Seeds, a business that sold seed wheat and other crop seed to farmers in Kansas and to the wheat grass industry nationwide.
In 2011, David and his wife were awarded the 2010 Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker award for their work and success in agriculture and their service to the local community. David was an active member of the Kansas Crop Improvement Association, and a founding member of the Sunrise Kiwanis in Russell. He gave of his time to the Russell Future Farmers of America and his church. More recently, David enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and watching his grandchildren grow up.
David leaves his daughter Heather of Russell, KS; his daughter Erica and her husband Jiri of Petaluma, CA; and his grandchildren David and Dahlia, also of Petaluma. David was predeceased by his wife Pamela in August 2019.
A celebration of life service will be held for David and his wife Pamela on November 16, 2019 at noon at the Elks lodge in Russell, KS.
