Thomas Logan Taggart, 72, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Thomas was born December 4, 1947 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Richard H. and Margaret (Parham) Taggart. He grew up in Hays, Kansas, and graduated from Hays High School in the Class of 65. He then attended two years at Ft. Hays State University before joining the U.S. Army. He served his country in the Vietnam War.
Thomas was united in marriage to Janet Marie Dolan on June 2, 1976 in Russell. This union was blessed with two daughters; Rory and Lacy. They made their home in Bunker Hill.
Thomas was a rural Mail Carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Wilson, Kansas for over 35 years, retiring in 2015. He also was the owner and operator of the Bunker Hill Café. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. He also was a proud member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, cooking, conversations with family and friends, but the most enjoyment was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving family include his wife of 43 years, Janet of the home; daughters, Rory Van Landingham (Barry) of Houston, Mississippi and Lacy Hammack (Josh) of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Connie Taggart of Shawnee, Kansas and Phyllis Shipley (Steve) of Gladston, Missouri; step brothers, Lonnie Hill (Annie) and Bill Hill; step sisters, Tammy Vega (Joe) Pueblo, Colorado and Teresa Hill (Ty) of Ellis, Kansas; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bruce Taggart and grandson Jake Van Landingham.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at the Otterbein United Methodist church at a later date.
