Delores Helen Wieger, 77, of Russell died on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Main Street Manor in Russell.  She was born on June 16, 1932 in Webster, South Dakota, the daughter of Pete and Elizabeth (Block) Helwig. 

Delores grew up in Webster and attended country schools.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Ray Wieger on June 15, 1950 in Grenville, South Dakota.  From this union they were blessed with three children Joan, Darrell and Duane.  Delores loved caring for people, so it only made sense that she became involved in the medical field and enjoyed working as a nurse’s aid for 45 years.  She was a longtime active member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, sewing and most of all, taking care of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed having a little fun betting on football games with her family.

Surviving family include her husband Ray of the home, daughter Joan Blake and husband Randy of Manhattan, Kansas; sons Darrell Wieger and wife Jennifer and Duane Wieger and wife Kim all of Russell; brother Don Helwig of Hays; sisters Gladys Grubs of Paxon, Arizona, Diana Gayona of Hays and Esther Loterbauer of Watertown, South Dakota; 6 grandchildren Justin, Melody, Jennifer, Kristin, Ashley and Shannon and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clarence Helwig, sisters Evelyn Hamman and Violet Maxwell.

Catholic Mass to Celebrate Delores’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell with Father James Grennan officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  A vigil service will follow at 7 P.M. Friday evening at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church  Memorials may be given to Main Street Manor and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
