Ervin F. Niedens, 86 of Russell, died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Main Street Manor in Russell. He was born on August 4, 1923 in Barton County, Kansas the son of Fred and Mary K. (Steinert) Niedens. He was united in marriage to Leona L. Rube on September 29, 1946 near Susank, Kansas. They made their home in Hoisington and Bazine before moving to Russell in 1973. Ervin worked for City Service Oil Company in production and various classifications for 37 ½ years and later retired in Russell on January 1, 1983. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #177 of Russell, Eastern Star #332, Russell Shrine Club, Elks Lodge #1715 of Russell and life member of the Isis Temple Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Salina.
Surviving Family include one brother L.D. Niedens of Garden City, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Leona on January 12, 1989 and four sisters Clista Funk, Helen Dumler, Isabelle Snyder and Elvina Dietz
Celebration of Ervin’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell, Kansas with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Services will conclude at the church and there will be no graveside service at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with family present to greet visitors from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday Evening.
