Donald Alexander Dreher, 64, of Russell died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Don was born June 11, 1946 in Hays, Kansas the son of Alexander and Anna (Graf) Dreher In the third grade, his family moved to Gorham, Kansas.  He graduated from Gorham Rural High School in 1964.

Don served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam with the Seabees.

After his military service, Don remained in Oxnard, California where he worked for Overhead Door Co.  In 1974, he returned to Gorham and started working for John O. Farmer, Inc. in the oilfields.  He also worked for Cities Service / OXY  as a mechanic until retiring in the mid 90’s.

Don was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Russell.  He also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Post # 6240.  He enjoyed spending his time tinkering on tractors and old cars, gardening and doing all types of construction.
 

Surviving family include his two sons, Don Dreher II of Carmen, Oklahoma and Dustin Dreher of Russell, Kansas; his daughter, Julie Dreher of Russell, Kansas; his parents, Alex and Ann Dreher of Gorham, Kansas; brothers Dean Dreher of Guymon, Oklahoma, Dale Dreher of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Val Dreher of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Diane Dinkel of Victoria, Kansas, Laura Boxberger of Great Bend, Kansas, and Wanda Hanzlicek of Wilson, Kansas; and grandson, Jakob Dreher.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Soukup.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham with Father James Grennan and Father Bill Surmeier officating.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Gorham with Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard conducting military rites.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with a Vigil being held at 7 P.M.  A memorial has been established as the Don Dreher Memorial Fund.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
