Maxine Louise (Sellens) Goodheart, 91 of Russell died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Maxine was born December 28, 1918 in Ordway, Colorado the daughter of Chester and Dorothy (Haffa) Sellens. At an early age, Maxine and her family moved to Russell County where she grew up. She graduated from Bunker Hill High School.
Maxine was united in marriage to Floyd Emery “Bud” Goodheart on December 28, 1937 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with four sons; Loren, Chester, Earl and Dean. They lived a few years in Wichita, Kansas before returning to Russell County to farm the Sellens Farm. Bud preceded her in death on April 8, 1973.
Maxine worked at the Farm Bureau office in Russell from 1967 to 1973. She then worked for Agco as a bookkeeper from 1973 to 1983. During the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s, Maxine was the manager of the Russell Senior Center. She even drove the travel bus for senior center trips. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and its choir. She enjoyed fishing with her family, traveling, cooking, singing and playing a good card game. But it was her family that she treasured most. Attending family gatherings was very important.
Surviving family include three sons, Loren Goodheart and wife Clarene of Stockton, Kansas, Chester Goodheart and wife Norma Jean of Loveland, Colorado and Earl Goodheart and wife Trudy of Spearman, Texas; sister, Melba Jean Cochran of Maize, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dean, grandson Douglas and four brothers.
Celebration of Maxine’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 8 P.M. Friday, July 23, 2010 at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established with Trinity United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
