John Edward Albrecht, 74 of Russell died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas
John was born September 9, 1935 in Paradise, Kansas the son of Edward and Meta (Paulsen) Albrecht. He grew up in the Paradise area and graduated from Paradise High School in 1953.
John served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1964. He was an air traffic controller at air bases in Japan, Spain, Africa and the United States. John moved to New York City when he left the military.
John lived in New York City for a couple of years before moving to Phoenix, Arizona. He lived in Phoenix for over 25 years working as a carpenter for J.R. Porter Construction Co.
He returned to Russell where he worked for King Of The Road as a carpenter. After the factory closed he was self employed as a carpenter and handyman.
He was a member of the Russell Muzzle Loaders. He loved to go fishing and camping, craft work with wood and drinking coffee with his buddies.
Surviving family include three sons, Steve Albrecht and wife Amy of Hays, Kansas and Brian Albrecht and wife Ann and Christopher Albrecht and wife Loretta all of Phoenix, Arizona; three brothers, Dennis Albrecht and wife Donna of Russell, Kansas, Gary Albrecht and wife Pat of Hays, Kansas and Donald Albrecht and wife Karen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Dodie Albrecht.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Rev. Kevin M. Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery near Paradise, Kansas. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2010 from 9 AM to 8 PM at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established with the Ellis and Russell Chapters of Relay for Life.
