Lex Eugene Thompson, 87, died August 6th at Russell Regional Hospital. He was born September 10, 1922, in Lincoln, KS to Alfred and Gertrude (Brumbaugh) Thompson and was the oldest of nine children. His family moved to Paradise, KS, when he was 11 years old. Lex graduated from Paradise High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army during W.W. II and was honorably discharged in 1946. On May 23, 1948, he married Florence Archer in Waldo, KS. This union was blessed with 8 children Jim, Harvey, Beverley, Faye, Steve, Tom, Scott and Janet. 

Lex was a farmer and stockman in Rice County for over 50 years. He also worked in the oilfields. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Geneseo and the Otterbein UMC in Russell.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Florence, of the home. Sons, Jim of Holyrood; Harvey (Mary Beth) of Abilene; Steve (Lori) of Paradise; Tom, and Scott (Jamie) of Arkansas City. Daughters Faye Kuhn (Tim) of Pratt; and Janet Porter (Tim) of Glen Elder. Brother Roger of Wichita; and sisters Evelyn Wright, Alexandria, VA; Vivian Martinez of Wichita, KS; Joan McCall (Don) of Phillipsburg; Sue Heitschmidt (Rodney) of Granbury, TX; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Beverley Lynne; three brothers Arthur, Gerald, and Ronald Thompson, and a sister Joy Thompson.

A celebration of Lex’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Paradise United Methodist Church with Pastors Sharon Thomas and Earl Haggard.  Burial will follow at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery north of Paradise.  Visitation will be from Noon to 8 P.M. on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Pohlman ~ Varner ~ Peeler Mortuary in Russell with the family present to greet visitors from 6 P.M. to 7 P. M. Sunday evening.  Memorials may be given to Paradise Methodist Church or Otterbein United Methodist Church of Russell and sent in care of the Mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
