Mary Elizabeth Shaw, 78, of Victoria and formerly of Russell died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the St. John’s Nursing Home in Victoria.

Mary was born September 8, 1931 in Mansfield, Ohio the daughter of John R.”Jack” and Marie (Mahoney) Eichelberger.  At a young age, Mary and her family moved to Hays where she grew up.  She graduated from Marian Catholic Girls High School in Hays and attended two years at Ft. Hays State University.

Mary was united in marriage to M.D. “Red” Shaw on August 29, 1951 in Hays.  This union was blessed with three children; Melinda, Margie and Harry.  Red preceded her in death on May 30, 1992.

Mary was a devoted mother and homemaker.  She was very active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when her children were members.  She also volunteered for the Election Board for many years. 

Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell.  She loved reading, sewing and taking care of her family.  She also enjoyed traveling with Red in the RV all over the United States.

Surviving family include her three children; Melinda Cross and husband Jim of Russell, Kansas, Margie Bloom and husband Phil of Clay Center, Kansas and Harry Shaw and wife Kim of Brentwood, Tennessee; sister, Lorraine Ybarra of Oceanside, California; 9 grandchildren Chris, Dustin, Angela & Melissa Bloom, Morgan & Conrad Shaw, John & Andrea Cross & Sarah Frost and 10 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and Brother Robert.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell with Father James Grennan officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell.  A Vigil & Rosary will be held at 7 P.M. Wednesday evening at the church.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Memorials have been established with St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. John’s Nursing Home in Victoria.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.  Condolences may also be sent via email at www.pvpmortuary.com.
