LuEtta Caroline (Major) Thacker, 82 of Russell died Sunday, September 05, 2010 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

LuEtta was born December 8, 1927 in rural Russell, Kansas the daughter of Theodore E. and Caroline H. (Ehrlich) Major.  She grew up and lived her entire life in Russell County.  She graduated from Russell High School in 1946.

LuEtta was united in marriage to Grover C. Thacker on January 13, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. From this union LuEtta and Grover were blessed with a son, Rick.  Grover preceded her in death on August 26, 1977.

LuEtta worked for Shepherd Firestone for almost 30 years as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed cooking, collecting and shopping on QVC.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving family include two granddaughters, Laura Thacker of Manhattan, Kansas and Heather Thacker of Eureka, California; three sisters, Dolores Shannon and husband Leonard of Russell, Kansas, Arletta Goodheart and husband Gale of Overland Park, Kansas and Delaine Rodenbarger and husband Jerry of Phoenix, Arizona and one great grandson, Scott Novotny.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, son Dr. Rick Thacker on November 29, 2004.

Celebration of LuEtta’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Otterbein United Methodist Church of Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Russell City Cemetery.  The guest book will be available from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  A memorial has been established with Otterbein United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
