Thelma Marie "Tommie" Dreiling, 81, of Russell, died on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at her home in Russell.
Thelma was born on January 16, 1929 in Gorham, Kansas the daughter of Fred Sr. and Lidwina (Sander) Weigel. She grew up on the family farm near Emmeram, Kansas and attended public school in Emmeram and graduated from Victoria High School in 1947.
She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Robert W. Dreiling on November 8, 1948 in Victoria at St. Fidelis Catholic Church. From this union they were blessed with a son, Ronald. Robert preceded Thelma in death on April 26, 2009.
Thelma worked at Red’s Chicken House as a waitress. Bob and she then moved to Gillette, Wyoming where she was the cook and manager of the Country Club. She also sold Mary K. Cosmetics. They lived in Denver, Colorado a few years before returning to Russell in 1996. Thelma was a devoted wife and mother.
She was a member of the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell and the R.C.C.W. She also belonged to the V.F.W. Post # 6240 Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, playing the harmonica and spending time in her garden.
Surviving family include her son Ronald Dreiling of Phoenix, Arizona, brother Fred Weigel, Jr. and wife Joan of Russell; sisters, Hubertina Herbel and husband Leo of Hays, Kansas and Vera Degenhardt and husband Jim of College Park, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell with Father Charles Steier officiating. A vigil service will be held at 7 PM on Friday, October 1, 2010 at the church. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Friday, October 1st at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Building Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be sent via email at www.pvpmortuary.com.
