Hazel Ota Foote, 94 of Colorado Springs, Colorado and formerly of Russell, Kansas died October 2, 2010 at the Life Care Center in Colorado Springs.

Hazel was born March 14, 1916 in Miltonville, Kansas the daughter of Lee and Sarah Ota (Reitnauer) Trickle.  She grew up on the family farm and attended school near Miltonville.

Hazel was united in marriage to LeRoy Robert Foote in 1936.  This union was blessed with five children; Shirley, Franklin, Patrica, Sharon and Linda.  LeRoy preceded her in death on March 14, 1991.

Hazel was a kitchen supervisor for Ala Fern Nursing Center in Russell for many years.  She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and she and LeRoy were members of the Russell Elk’s Lodge.  She enjoyed embroidering, doing word puzzles, cooking and spending time with family and friends.  She was a very giving person that will be missed.

Surviving family include her children; Franklin Foote and wife Charlene S. of Montrose, Co., Patrica McCoy and husband Roy of Colorado Springs, Co., Sharon Starr and husband Gary of Girard, Ks. and Linda Anderson and husband Joe of Wichita, Ks.; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Shirley Schulenburg on Oct. 8, 2005, 4 brothers, 1 sister and 7 grandchildren.

Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Interment will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday, October 8, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.  A memorial has been established with the Otterbein United Methodist Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is charge of these arrangements.  Condolences may also be sent via email at pvpmortuary.com.
