Cheryl Joan Line, 81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday morning October 24, 2010 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Cheryl was born on January 8, 1929 in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of William Hiram & Edna (Pickrell) Hogue.  She grew up and attended most of her schooling in Ottawa, Kansas.  She moved to Topeka before her senior year of high school.  She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946.  After high school she attended Washburn University and graduated in 1950 with a BS in music, where she mastered the harp, piano and the organ.  Cheryl met, fell in love and was united in marriage to James Richard Line on December 21, 1952 in Topeka, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with 4 children Meridy, Richard, Steven and Kristy.  She worked as a music teacher in her early years and in her later years worked as a piano and organ accompanist and piano teacher.  Cheryl and James have been active members of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1963.  She was also a long time member of the Gamma Zeta Sorority and Kappa Alpha Theta at Washburn University.  She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, spending time with family and was an avid sports enthusiast.  Most of all she enjoyed going to Kansas City and spoiling her many grandchildren.

Surviving family include her husband James of the home, daughter Meridy Barnes and husband Jim of Russell, son Richard Line and wife Trudy of Leawood, KS, son Steven Line of Kansas City, MO and daughter Kristy Buyle and husband Mark of Olathe, KS; sister Marian Nash of Borger, TX; 8 grandchildren Stacey, Chad, Connor, Emily, Mallory, Natalie, Andrew, and Hallie and a great grandson Logan. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Don Hogue.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Trinity United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the mortuary.  The family will be present from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening.  The family requests that friends and family please give to one of the two memorials designated by the family, the Trinity United Methodist Church Organ Fund or the Russell Regional Hospital.
